More than 1,200 people were "Walking on Sunshine" at the 9th Memorial
Stepping Out for Hospice Walk held on April 22nd, 2007 at Stonehill
College. Just take a look at the photo albums to see for yourself – our
thanks to Dottie Schwalm and Ruthie McDonough photographers from D & R
Photography as well as to Jim Bobolia for capturing the heart and soul
of the walk The sea of people in colorful tee shirts, carrying banners,
was a moving and memorable sight. It was a picture perfect spring day
after weeks of rain.
Walkers went all out – they made team shirts with pictures and messages,
banners – there were even lobsters too. Family teams, teams of friends,
local high schools and colleges, and many businesses put together teams
and helped raise funds for Old Colony Hospice's programs and services.
There were dogs, strollers, scooters and lots of balloons too. Walkers
enjoyed chowder, hot dogs, meatball subs, cake, cookies and more. There
was dancing to the great tunes provided by our DJ – the Macarena, Cotton
Eyed Joe, the Electric Slide too – lots of fun was had by all.
This year walkers not only signed the memorial banner but were able to
leave a message for a loved one in the memorial balloon garden. "We
wanted to give the walkers another way to remember someone they cared
for and thought this would be a beautiful visual and it was – a sea of
pink, green and white balloons blowing in the breeze with touching
messages – it was special," said Linda Werman, Development Manager.
"We are well on our way to reaching our goal" says Marilyn Jackson,
Director of Development. The funds are arriving daily as walkers finish
collecting their outstanding pledges and donors go on-line at
www.firstgiving.com/och to continue their support.
We want to say thank you – one and all and hope to see everyone next
year for the 10th anniversary walk.
